Closing up shop.

This blog didn't quite come out as planned, so I'm closing it down. I had intended to make lively (if one-sided) conversation about what I was reading, but the truth is that I simply read it too fast and didn't feel like keeping a journal during each new book. I am going to transfer my page-count to my book blog (which may be moving as well...) since I'm pretty proud of that goal being nearly met. And I will keep you updated with my reading for the year over there.

Other than that, this is goodbye! Thanks for reading!

How is your reading going?

I'm now onto Artemis Fowl. So far (a hundred pages in) it's pretty good. I'd really love to hear about your books, though.

Summer has started!

It's official. School is out. My classroom is locked. I slept in this morning... it's finally summer!

All of that means that I finally had time (and energy) to pick up my book again today. I got a little reading done (maybe 60 pages or so) and really enjoyed it. I'll have to make more time for it now that I'm not exhausted from teaching or busy writing lesson plans!

Today, I'm reading The Magician, which is the second book in the Nicholas Flamel series. It's action packed and very entertaining. It's also easy to read and you don't have to have any special knowledge to understand the characters (although some basic mythology would probably make it a little more interesting, but that's not my strong suit).

So, is anyone else reading?

Finished!

I just finished Saving Juliet. It was super cute! It's maybe a little grown-up for middle school, but most of it was tame enough. The protag. is 17ish, so it's probably intended for high schoolers.

Anyway, it's about a girl who has to act the part of Juliet in her family's theater. Only she hates it. She hates it so much that she's been getting stage fright and even throwing up on stage. Finally, the night of the final performance, she decides to run away. There's a struggle and a small bottle of ashes around her neck breaks...

Suddenly, she's not in the theater any more. Mimi has been transported back in time (and into fiction) to Verona. But she's not just there to witness the play; everything she does seems to be changing it!

I really want to tell you the rest of the story, but it's so good, I think you should just read it yourself. It won't take long!

Finished again!

I finished Savvy. I really enjoyed it, actually. You should seriously consider it for your summer reading assignment. And when you do, I have all kinds of things I want to talk to you about!
